Native animal sanctuary proposed for Glenthorne Farm

A WILDLIFE sanctuary could be built at Glenthorne Farm to educate locals about native animals, under a proposal being considered by the State Government.
Adelaide Koala & Wildlife Hospital co-founder Rae Campbell is pushing the sanctuary idea – offering space for injured animals to rehabilitate, along with an education centre.
Mrs Campbell has been discussing the proposal with Environment Minister David Speirs.
“Hopefully we’ll have a room the size of a barn where we can get local artists to come in and paint it so it looks like a forest,” she said.
“We’d be using one of the existing buildings and we’ll be able to care for wildlife as well.”
If supported by the State Government, the sanctuary would form part of the new Glenthorne Farm National Park, which will incorporate the 208ha Glenthorne site on Majors Rd.
The Government will integrate the Marino and Hallett Cove conservation parks, Field River Valley, Happy Valley Reservoir and O’Halloran Hill Recreation Park within the new park.
Mrs Campbell said the sanctuary would be a separate entity to her Plympton-based hospital.
