The man who was allegedly behind the wheel of the car that killed a 20-year-old father last week will remain in custody until early 2022.
Michael Henley, 22, appeared via video link with his head slumped in Christies Beach Magistrate Court on Monday charged with charged with manslaughter, causing death by dangerous driving, failing to stop at the scene of a crash, and failing to comply with the Emergency Management Act.
Henley’s lawyer Casey Isaacs made no application for bail for his client saying they may consider the possibility in the future.
A police prosecutor told the court there is evidence they need to assess before Henley’s next appearance next date, including dashcam footage, CCTV, and a collision report.
Police will allege Henley was behind the wheel of the vehicle that killed Nick Darling, 20.
Darling died when the Toyota Hilux he was riding in was hit by a silver Ford sedan on Flaxmil Rd, Morphett Vale, about 9.50pm on Tuesday, July 20.
His best mate, Lewis Bennett, who was driving the Toyota, survived the crash with non-life threatening injuries.
Henley handed himself over to police on Friday after allegedly fleeing the crime scene.
No submissions or pleas were heard.
Henley will appear in court again next February.
