THE Maslin Beach Nude Olympics has finally settled on a new name - for the second time in two months.

THE Maslin Beach Nude Olympics has finally settled on a new name.

The event will now be called the Pilawarren Maslin Beach Nude Games after the Australian Olympic Committee warned organisers against renaming it the Maslin Beach Nudo Lympics last month.

Organisers David and Debbie Pillar changed the original name in June after the AOC sent a letter in January warning them not to use the word 'Olympics' in the title.

Mr Pillar said they had decided not to fight the AOC's latest legal threats.

"We do not have the time or funds available to take on the Olympic committee over the use of the name 'Pilwarren Maslin Beach Nudo Lympics'," he said.

"I do not think they have the legal right to stop us from using this title, but we are not interested in taking on the AOC over the issue."

The AOC's lawyer sent a letter to Mr and Mrs Pillar last month saying it did not "consent" to the newly-named Maslin Beach Nudo Lympics.

It said the new name still resembled the word 'Olympics'.

Mr Pillar previously told the paper promoting the event with a new name was going to be "a problem".

"Thousands of people know the event as the Maslin's Olympics," he said.

"The people that knew the old name may not associate the new name with the previous event and may not recognise it as the same event with a new name.

"The previous name of the event had been used for 30 years with no problems."

An AOC spokesman contacted by the Southern Times Messenger refused to comment on the new name change.

The event had used its original Nude Olympics name since it started in 1983.

It was cancelled for five years after 2007, before being reintroduced this year.
