The valuable art collection of former Onkaparinga Mayor Lorraine Rosenberg has been stolen from her daughter’s Macclesfield property.

Ms Rosenberg lives on a farm in Willunga Hill and had loaned her daughter 17 artworks as well as furniture to stage the Macclesfield home while it was up for sale.

On Sunday morning, a real estate agent discovered all of the artwork had been stolen from the vacant property overnight.

Ms Rosenberg built the collection of art for more than 25 years and estimates the stolen pieces are valued between $10,000 and $20,000.

“I really love art and that’s probably where I’ve spent most of my money and effort is in building up the art collection,” she said.

“They were all valuable in their own way but the biggest value to me was that they all represented this region in some way.

“I’ve always had this region at heart and I think that I’ve lost part of me as well as the art.”

The stolen pieces included framed and unframed oil paintings, pen and ink pieces and a pastel.

All of the pieces were by South Australian artists including Peter Heinjus, Ray Manhall and Shirleyann Brough.

“For me, it’s something you can’t replace,” Ms Rosenberg said.

“The art is insured but the money won’t get me back the art that I had and all of them are one off pieces.

“I’m nearly 70 years old and I’m not going to start again now to build up an art collection.

“This was one of the things that I could’ve left behind for my children and grandchildren but now it’s gone and there’s nothing I can do about that now.”

SA Police are investigating the theft and all of the pieces were insured.

Ms Rosenberg believes the theft was carried out by someone who knew the property was vacant and that the art was on site.

“It seems to me that it’s someone who either knew what they were doing and knew the place really well or it was someone who had given it a lot of thought,” she said.
