A large block of land next door to a culturally significant Kaurna site in Adelaide’s south has hit the market.

A 4.3ha vacant site next to the culturally significant Warriparinga Wetlands has hit the market.
The Marion Road, Bedford Park site – owned by the Indigenous Land and Sea Corporation (ILSC) – has been listed for sale via expressions of interest.
The site borders the Warriparinga Wetlands which is significant to the Kaurna people and is home to the Living Kaurna Cultural Centre.
An ILSC spokesman said the corporation had been working on a strategy for the land with the Kaurna Yerta Aboriginal Corporation (KYAC) since 2013.
“The decision to sell a 4.3 hectare portion of the property was made in partnership with and fully supported by the KYAC,” he said.
“In line with its current partnership, the ILSC and KYAC will consider all expressions of interest.
“The price point will be guided by the market.
“We will consider including specific sale conditions to ensure any proposal aligns with plans for the broader precinct.”
In 2017, ILSC submitted a proposal to the State Government’s planning department to develop the site into homes for 500 people, shops, and potentially a petrol station.
It also wanted to build a complex overlooking the wetlands and Sturt River for up to 50 elders to live in.
The land was later rezoned to allow substantial redevelopment options including high-density residential with commercial and retail.
A Marion Council spokesman said the council – which manages the neighbouring wetlands – was aware of the proposed sale.
“We’re ... keen to understand any plans for the site, which borders Warriparinga Wetlands,” he said.
Expression of interest for the property are open until 4pm on November 19.
