A 22-year-old has faced court charged with a terrifying attack on a woman in her Aldinga Beach home.

Jesse Michael Normandale appeared in the Christies Beach Magistrates Court via video link, charged with assault and trespassing at the Lovelock Street home on Saturday evening.

The court heard the 35-year-old victim was home with her three daughters – aged 14, eight and five – when Normandale allegedly entered the house through an unlocked front door.

A police prosecutor said the victim confronted Normandale and he asked if she “had a bong”.

“He then attacked her by punching her to the face multiple times, a struggled ensued during which the accused bit the victim’s face, causing significant injuries to her right cheek,” he said.

“Her three children were terrified, she told them to run and hide in the bathroom and call police.

“The accused continued to attack the victim and bit her twice on the arm. The victim then armed herself with a pair of pliers and struck the accused multiple times, causing injuries to his head. He then ran from the address.”

The victim was treated by paramedics at the scene and later taken to Flinders Medical Centre to receive treatment for her facial injuries.

The court heard Normandale and the victim were not known to each other.

Defence lawyer Yasmin Faiyad told the court Normandale had little memory of the attack and had been drinking alcohol throughout the day.

“He does have an alcohol issue which is evident in the facts,” she said.

“In his instructions to me, he woke up in a house with a lady on top of him with a pair of pliers hitting him over the head and the rest of it was a bit of a blur.

“He doesn’t remember going into the place, he doesn’t remember why he went in there, he doesn’t recall the incidents of that day other than he had a lot of alcohol that night.

“He wants to help himself and get better by stopping alcohol – he knows that’s a massive contributing factor in relation to this matter.”

Magistrate Lynette Duncan adjourned the matter until Tuesday to consider the possibility of releasing Normandale on home detention bail.
