The ongoing issue of hoon motorbike riders has again been raised after an elderly man was harassed while walking his dog in Seaford Rise.

An elderly man was nearly run over by a dirt bike in Adelaide’s south last week.

Leanne Moon has warned locals to keep any eye out after a hoon tried to run over her 79-year-old father on a walking and cycling trail at Seaford Rise.

In a post on the Southern Suburbs Community Noticeboard & Chat Facebook page, she said her Dad was attacked while out walking his dog on Thursday.

“My Dad (aged 79) was walking his little dog when an unregistered motorbike rider came hooning along the track and started circling him then tried several times to run him over,” she wrote.

“Luckily, Dad is OK but these idiots have to be stopped and dealt with.”

She said the incident had been reported to the police.

Hoon riders regularly speed through reserves, trails and suburban streets in the southern suburbs.

Last year, a seven-month-old puppy called Piper was killed outside her Seaford Meadows home after being struck by a dirt bike rider and there have been reports of families being “terrorised” by hoons at a playground in Morphett Vale.

Labor MP for Reynell Katrine Hildyard said this latest incident was “very worrying”.

“Community members being worried about their safety because of dirt/trail bikes being ridden in inappropriate places is unacceptable,” Ms Hildyard said.

“I have had many community members contact me very concerned about the prevalence of people in our southern community riding dirt/trail bikes on walking trails, in parks and on paths and laneways.

“People report being scared about being hit, and report having to jump out of the way as bikes approach.

“Many people also speak about being kept awake at night because of the noise of these bikes.”

Ms Hildyard said it was crucial that every incident was reported to the police.

She also wanted Onkaparinga Council to install bollards where possible and for the State Government to find appropriate places for dirt/trail bike riders to use.

“I will keep supporting our community to get these issues resolved,” she said.

“People have a right to feel and be safe when they are out and about in our community.”
