A Dover Gardens woman - whose license has been disqualified until 2026 - has faced court after causing a three car pile up in Adelaide’s south earlier this week.

Gail Louise Rollins, 58, applied for home detention bail in the Christies Beach Magistrate Court on Wednesday.

The court heard Rollins had received a frantic call from her daughter who was “fearing for her life” before making the decision to get behind the wheel.

“She was hiding behind a bush … she was scared out of her brain,” Ms Rollins told the court.

Police allege Ms Rollins disregarded their attempts to pull her over on Brighton Road just before 4pm on September 12.

“She’s hit the kerb and punctured her tire,” the police prosecutor said.

“She’s then disobeyed the no entry signs and drove through a bicycle lane without slowing.”

The court heard Ms Rollins’ speed allegedly reached between 70 to 80 km/h in a 50 zone along Beach Road in an attempt to avoid police.

Ms Rollins allegedly proceeded to crash into a taxi and a Kia Sportage.

The driver of the taxi, a 34-year-old Marion man, was taken to hospital for treatment of minor injuries.

The driver of the Kia, a 52-year-old Hillbank woman, was not physically injured.

Ms Rollins was arrested and charged with driving while disqualified, fail to stop, speed dangerous and possessing (controlled drug) equipment.

When police did eventually catch up to her, they allegedly found an ice pipe on Ms Rollins who returned a positive drug test reading of methamphetamine.

In her submission to the court, the police prosecutor submitted Ms Rollins has a “terrible driving history”, and is before the court for further driving matters.

Ms Rollins was disqualified from driving until 2026 in January this year and also subjected to a suspended sentence bond for driving matters.

Magistrate Natalie Browne ordered a home detention report.

The matter will return to court later this month.
