Five-star motel planned for McLaren Vale, at Bekkers Wine site

Plans for a five-star motel in McLaren Vale have been lodged with Onkaparinga Council.
A two-storey motel with 124 rooms is proposed to be built at 212 Seaview Rd – the current home of Bekkers Wine.
The application includes a restaurant, function room, swimming pool, day spa, carparking and landscaping across a 5659sq m footprint.
“The proposed development represents the first five-star accommodation within McLaren Vale,” the plans say.
”It will make a positive contribution to the region … (and) will offer opportunities for local, interstate and overseas travellers to spend time in the region and spend money in local businesses and wineries.”
Wirra Wirra is also planning a five-star luxury resort in McLaren Vale and is expected to begin construction in November.
According to the new Seaview Rd plans, the motel will offer short-term accommodation with a combination of one and two-bedroom rooms available.
The restaurant would operate between 7am and 1am 7-days a week and offer room service.
No outdoor events or functions are proposed.
A plan for a hotel on the site was approved by Onkaparinga Council in 2012, however, construction never got underway.
In 2018, the property was purchased by Primefield Investment Pty Ltd for $2.3 million.
The latest plans have been lodged by Victorian plastering company Expoconti Pty Ltd on behalf of Primefield Investment Pty Ltd.
Locals can provide feedback to the council on the plans until February 12.
