Another gym franchise is set to set up shop in the south after an application to change the use of a bulky goods outlet to a fitness centre.

The proposal, placed by Derrimut Pty Ltd, submitted a development application for a 70-patron outlet on the corner of Seaford and McMillan Rd in Seaford Meadows.

“The fitness centre would provide a convenient health and lifestyle service in an area which is

currently experiencing considerable growth in its number of residents,” the report said.

“Bulky goods outlets provide the ideal canvas for fitness centres as they require large floor spaces to function along with access to ample parking areas.

“The proposal benefits from the existing building where a minor fit-out is required with

no major modifications required, if the fitness centre were to cease operating the building would quickly be returned as a vacant tenancy where it could accommodate a bulky goods outlet without any compromise.”

Since the building’s construction, the middle tenancy has been vacant due to the lack of demand for the use anticipated by the zone.

The space would be split into five different areas, including an open gym area, a ladies specific gym, aerobics, amenities as well as a retail shop.

The report also expects it’s busiest time to be around 6pm and 8pm on both Monday and Tuesday with and estimated 70 patrons to be there within the two hour span.

Originating from Melbourne, the Derrimut franchise hopes to have 300 gyms open nationally by 2030.

The 24 hour services already has nine gyms in Adelaide in areas such as Port Adelaide, Seaford, Welland and Gepps Cross.

The application is open until June.
