City of Marion release two concepts for Hallett Cove’s proposed tidal pool

Concept plans to build a multimillion-dollar seaside tidal pool have been released, but the execution may still be years away. See the images here.

A “once-in-a-generation” project set for Adelaide’s south will be in the community’s hands, as council begin another public consultation period on whether or not to build a multimillion-dollar seaside pool.

The idea for the Hallett Cove pool – which would be located at Heron Way Reserve – was first floated in 2017.

However, despite a number of setbacks, including the state government once knocking back funding for the ‘incredibly popular’ project, the City of Marion have remand passionate about the project.

Early in 2023, the City of Marion engaged a specialist team to develop a concept design for a proposed Sea-side pool at Hallett Cove.

Two options have been prepared for the Council and community, which include a 50m seaside pool or a 25m seaside pool.

Both options come with a hefty bill with the 50m pool expected to cost an estimated $10.3m, while the 25m for $9m.

Council documents state, both options include a 90 metre length embankment protection behind the proposed pool.

The concept includes some initial works which are associated with the pool including new beach access.

Further embankment protection north and south of the pool is part of a broader, staged strategy for coastal protection works along the Hallett Cove beach.

Leader of the Opposition and Local MP, David Speirs, has been a major supporter of the assets since it’s first fruition.

“I’ve seen the concept designs – and they are fantastic,” Mr Speirs said.

“This project is incredibly popular – and has been creating enormous excitement in my local community.

“In fact, a survey I undertook three years ago indicated that over 90 per cent of local residents were supportive and keen to find a way for it to proceed in some form.

“I was then able to secure funding for the early stages of this project when I was Environment Minister.

“I’ve welcomed the Council’s support to date for this once-in-a-generation project that will transform this part of the coast – and I urge them to vote for the next stage at their meeting tonight.”

The Advertiser understands that although a concept designs could be endorsed by Council, there is currently no money set aside for the project for at least the next four years.

Community consultation of the design will begin in later this month.
