A man who threatened police with a large rock near Flinders Medical Centre has pleaded guilty to assaulting police.
Christopher Taylor, of Hawthorn, appeared before the Christies Beach Magistrates Court via video link on Monday.
He was charged with resisting three police officers and assaulting one on September 10.
The court heard police had attended the medical centre to speak with the 27-year-old – who was on parol at the time – in relation to a vehicle collision when he ran away from them.
“As police arrived, a number of security guards and police directed other police officers towards a male running across a carpark area,” a police prosecutor said.
“Police gave chase on foot, he was told a number of times to stop but continued.”
The police prosecutor said Taylor then entered a construction site and continued to run from police.
“He then picked up a large rock in his right hand, held it in the air in a manner as though he was going to throw the rock or strike one of the police officers with it,” he said.
“At the time the defendant was approximately three metres away from the police officer.
“The police officer feared he was about to be assaulted, reached for his taser and the defendant then dropped the rock and again ran.”
Police were eventually able to restrain and arrest Taylor.
Magistrate Teresa Anderson will sentence Taylor later this week.
