Carolyn Modra released on bail, charged alongside husband and son in Morphett Vale drug bust

A woman charged alongside her husband and son after the discovery of a half a kilo of meth linked to a suspected murder investigation has made her bid for bail.

Brutal murders linked, police say (7NEWS)

A woman arrested as part of an investigation into suspected murders and wide-scale drug trafficking has been released on bail, despite the court hearing she’s a daily drug user.

Carolyn Patricia Ann Modra, 62, was charged alongside her husband and son with possessing half a kilo of methamphetamine and more than $50,000 in cash

Her son, Chad Rick Modra, 38, and husband Ricky Andrew Modra, 59, remain in custody after Chad foreshadowed a guilty plea and Ricky was denied bail.

The trio were arrested at a Morphett Vale property on January 15 after police raided the house as part of Task Force Southern.

During a dig in the backyard, police located 616g of methamphetamine hidden in polypipe.

In another container police found $50,870 in cash.

During Carolyn’s continuing bail application in the Adelaide Magistrates Court on Monday, the court heard prosecution were opposed to all forms of bail, due to Carolyn’s drug use.

“Ms Modra made admissions to the report writer that she’d been using heroin on a daily basis for the last 18-months,” Jessica Kurtzer, for Carolyn, said.

Ms Kurtzer said Carolyn had gone through the withdrawal process while in custody.

On September 2, 2021 STAR Group officers raided the same Morphett Vale home and located two containers of fantasy, 135 suboxone strips and $52,000 in cash.

The trio are charged with commercial drug trafficking and money laundering.

During a brief court hearing earlier this month, Chad Modra said: “I plan to plead guilty”.

He did not apply for bail and his charges were adjourned until February.

Ms Kurtzer, who also represents Ricky, previously told the court the question of whether her clients possessed the drugs at any time was likely to be contested.

Ricky applied for home detention bail earlier this month but was refused because he was on bail at the time of the offending.

He will appear in court again in February at the same time as his son.

During the raid, jewellery and an e-bike were also seized. Police allege the items were the proceeds of crime.

The raid was part of Task Force Southern, a targeted police investigation involving 42 detectives assessing three brutal murders in Adelaide’s south.

A $600,000 reward was announced last month in a bid to encourage anyone with information on the three murders of Robert Atkins, Trevor King and Jeff Mundy to come forward.

In the Adelaide Magistrates Court on Monday, Magistrate Roderick Jensen released Carolyn on home detention bail.

“If you use drugs and you’re tested and it’s positive, you’ll go back into custody,” he said.

Her charges were adjourned until May.
