Brittany Sheree Coleman pleads not guilty to driving on meth with a child in the car

A Morphettville woman says she will fight a charge of driving with meth in her system and a child in the car – despite returning a positive drug test.

Australia's Court System

A Morphettville woman has pleaded not guilty to drug driving with a child in the car, despite returning a positive result for methamphetamine.

Brittany Sheree Coleman, 27, faced the Christies Beach Magistrates Court on Monday charged with driving with methamphetamine in her system and a child in the car at Woodcroft earlier this year.

Coleman – who appeared unrepresented – told the court she had not taken drugs for weeks before allegedly drug driving on March 20.

“I hadn’t left the house in I don’t know how long, I genuinely didn’t do it,” she said.

“(My) other drug driving offences I’ve accepted because I did it but this one I didn’t do it.

“I didn’t consume anything … for weeks.”

Magistrate Teresa Anderson told Coleman she would have to explain how methamphetamine came to be in her system.

“You’re entitled to challenge it but you need to understand what you’re going to have to establish if it does go to trial,” she said.

“You’re going to satisfy a magistrate that if the police evidence is accepted quite clearly there was methylamphetamine in your system.

“You’re going to have to explain how it is that there was meth in your system.

“Coming along and saying ‘I didn’t use’ is still not going to explain how meth was in your system.”

Coleman will meet with police for pre-trial negotiations in December.
