Brighton’s Australia Post store will continue trading as normal

With the closure of several stores across the country, Australia Post confirms the fate of a popular seaside store after whispers of its closure.

Australia Post has dispelled rumours it will close a beachside store in Adelaide’s south.

On Tuesday an Australian Post spokeswoman confirmed to The Advertiser there were no plans to close the Brighton store amid rumours from locals it would be no more in the New Year.

“We have no plans to close that store,” said the spokeswoman.

The Advertiser understands the building was recently sold but Australia Post has retained its lease.

It comes after local were left looking for answers when Australia Post closed down the Oaklands Park store, less than two kilometres away from the Brighton location, earlier this year.

“It’s such a busy post office, I can’t understand this decision at all,” one Facebook user wrote.

Labor MP Sarah Andrews also displayed her dissatisfaction at the time, writing a letter to the Communications Minister at the time.

“Australia Post provides many essential services to the community and local business, including parcel delivery, identity services and banking,” she wrote.

“With the decline in the use of cash I am advised that the post office is one of the few places that those who rely on cash are able to pay their bills.

“The central location of this post shop makes it a hub for many. Particularly those who must use public transport.

“With the Marion Bus interchange and the Oaklands Train Station close by, this post office’s location within Westfield Marion makes it convenient and accessible.

“It will be a substantial loss to the community and local businesses.”

Westfield Tea Tree Plaza’s Australia Post location closed in September after a “drop in customers.”
