A southern suburbs high school student has been charged with four counts of rape and one count of detaining a person.

Year 11 student Yuyang Lu, 18, faced the Christies Beach Magistrates Court on Wednesday charged with engaging in sexual intercourse with a woman without her consent four times over two separate incidents in July and August.

Lu, of Bellevue Heights, was also charged with allegedly detaining the woman on one of the occasions.

Court documents show Lu was 18 years old at the time of both alleged incidents.

Lu’s lawyer requested his name remain suppressed to prevent bullying if he were to return to high school.

“He’s looking at attending school and we do not wish for him to get bullied at school,” she said.

“At the moment the matters are still being investigated, it’s a bit unfair that my client’s name would be publicised.

“I also would further like to raise that to protect my client’s safety – he’s been receiving forms of threat so we do not wish that he receive further threats on social media.”

Magistrate Lynette Duncan refused the request.

A police prosecutor said it would take police four months to investigate e-crime evidence in relation to the charges.

Lu will appear in court again in March next year.
