A teenage hoon accused of doing burnouts in a stolen car before being captured on CCTV trying to sell it has been released from custody.
Zak Gramas-Martin, 18, was granted home detention bail in the Adelaide Magistrates Court on Wednesday, after his alleged plans to get quick cash for the car were foiled.
A prosecutor told the court they were opposed to all forms of bail, due to Mr Gramas-Martin’s poor criminal history.
Last week, the court heard the victim reported to police that his Toyota HiLux was stolen from his Brighton driveway in the early hours on January 15.
The court heard Mr Gramas-Martin allegedly attempted to sell the car at the Adelaide Vehicle Centre on January 16.
A search by a witness revealed the car was stolen so he contacted police and Mr Gramas-Martin allegedly drove away.
The prosecutor said police recovered the abandoned car at Seaford Meadows and they arrested Mr Gramas-Martin.
“They found clothing that was worn by the male in the CCTV provided by Adelaide Vehicle Centre,” the prosecutor said.
An analysis of Mr Gramas-Martin’s phone on January 17 allegedly found evidence of him disposing of the car and attempting to alter it.
“The accused said that he didn’t steal the car but knew the car was stolen,” the prosecutor said.
“He said another male stole it and drove it to his house … he admitted to trying to sell it while knowing it was stolen.”
Mr Gramas-Martin, of South Brighton, is charged with theft, two counts of misusing a motor vehicle – sustained wheel spin and using a mobile phone while driving.
In court on Wednesday, Magistrate Simon Smart granted Mr Gramas-Martin home detention bail
His charges were adjourned until next month.
