A major redevelopment of the Aldinga Sports Complex will be funded by the Federal Government.
South Australian Liberal senator Anne Ruston announced on Monday that the government
would provide $2.26 million to upgrade the complex and allow it to keep pace with Aldinga’s rapidly growing population.
“The funding will go towards the construction of two new soccer pitches and upgrades of multi-use sporting facilities,” Ms Ruston said.
New cricket nets will also be installed.
The Port Rd site is also home to the Aldinga Football Club, the Aldinga Bay Bowling Club, Aldinga Hockey Club, equestrian clubs and the Aldinga Netball Club.
Facilities will be designed for multi-use including for other junior level sports such as AFL and cricket.
Aldinga Soccer Club President Mick Treen welcomed the announcement.
“The soccer club has for years shared facilities with the footy club so it would be great to have our own soccer pitches,” Mr Treen said.
“This is good news for the community and other sporting clubs in the area.
“Hopefully we can all work together and make the Aldinga sporting hub a place everyone can enjoy.”
Federal Member for Mayo Rebekha Sharkie said it would “make such a difference”.
”The communities of Aldinga, Port Willunga and Sellicks Beach are among the fastest-growing parts of Adelaide and, as a result, are experiencing infrastructure deficits,” Ms Sharkie said.
Other local sporting and community clubs received funding including the Aldinga Bay Surf Lifesaving Club ($13,500), the Yankalilla Men’s Shed ($10,000) and Normanville’s HMAS Hobart Memorial ($6000).
