A stunning location near the Port Noarlunga foreshore and a focus on consistency have earned a southern cafe the title of best brunch spot in the region.

Agatha’s on Gawler Street received more than 21 per cent of reader votes in our latest Delicious local poll.

David Racher – who’s owned the cafe for 10 of its 27 years – said the win was an exciting end to a tough 12 months for the industry.

“With everyone having the year that we did last year it’s nice to recognise that our consistency has been noticed by our customers and we hope we can continue that,” Mr Racher said.

“It’s great because that’s what we really strive for, we’re not really into the big awards nights we’d rather just go off our own back and hope that the customers recognise us.”

In his decade at Agatha’s, Mr Racher said he’d seen the local brunch culture grow massively for both his cafe and other local businesses.

“Especially on the weekends a lot more people come out for breakfast and brunch and this area has really grown with that and grown into a bit of a food hub down here,” he said.

And despite its reputation as a road bump on the way to home ownership for Millennials, Mr Racher said the cafe’s take on smashed avocado – the Smash Smash – was still its most popular dish.

“We have simple ingredients done really well and we try and keep it consistent not only with the food but with our customer service as well so they feel like it’s their place every single time,” he said.

Fellow Port Noarlunga cafe The Flour Store joined Agatha’s in the top five brunch spots with Deep Blue Cafe, Moana and Golden Fleece, Willunga taking out second and third.
