Adelaide’s Gary the goat — the one who thinks he’s a roo — won’t be moved on

THE celebrity status of Adelaide’s Gary the goat — the one who thinks he’s a roo — is on the rise as thousands follow him on social media.
But he’s not bleating about it and is just happy to be staying put: the south’s newest celebrity will get to enjoy a peaceful life with his adopted family of kangaroos.
Authorities have confirmed they won’t make any effort to remove the wild goat from a privately-owned paddock on Commercial Rd, Seaford Meadows.
A Facebook page Leave Gary the Goat Alone attracted almost 4000 “likes” in less than a week.
Residents had been concerned Gary’s days of mingling with his marsupial mates were numbered.
The Environment Department and Onkaparinga Council were also contacted by residents regarding Gary’s future.
Kaurna MP Chris Picton even put in a call to Environment Minister Ian Hunter to make sure Gary would be safe.
“It is a solitary animal and it appears to be creating minimal impact in its location, so it can be tolerated at the present time,” a department spokeswoman said.
“Control of feral pest animals is the responsibility of landowners.”
The council said the goat was on private property and it had no plans to remove the animal.
The Southern Times Messenger last week reported the goat, believed to be suffering an identity crisis, was living happily with about 60 kangaroos in the paddock.
Since then, more cars have been pulling up alongside the road to catch a glimpse of Gary.
