Still on a high from their wedding rehearsal, Mitchell Park couple Lauren Megaw and Claire Turton were devastated to find their wedding had been banned.
Just minutes after leaving their rehearsal on Wednesday two days before their wedding, Ms Megaw, 35 and Ms Turton, 42, were bombarded with the news of SA’s six-day lockdown which meant all weddings were cancelled.
“We kind of wish the announcement had been made an hour or two earlier because we had the rehearsal at the venue with the celebrant and all our witnesses there so we could have just made that the real deal but it was too late,” Ms Turton said.
The couple had spent 18 months planning their big day at Ivybrook Farm at Maslins Beach.
Ms Turton said the couple had already come to terms with the idea of friends and family from the United Kingdom and Victoria not being able to attend but never expected their day to be cancelled.
‘It’s kind of worse than the worse case scenario for us,” she said.
“In our heads it was never going to be all weddings cancelled, we thought the worst that would happen would be only being allowed five people.
“It never crossed our minds that they’d cancel all weddings.”
With Friday’s announcement of an early end to lockdown, the couple have spent what would have been their wedding day trying to reschedule their big day to next week.
“It’s not the end of the world but it just sucks,” Ms Megaw said.
“We’re just very sad really, we understand why they needed to do the lockdown but it’s 18 months of planning down the drain.
‘The thought of trying to reschedule is awful because everyone has had to reschedule so all the vendors are so booked.”
