Adelaide in pictures: how we are capturing our city in the lead up to #SnapAdelaide

A WHITE-bearded man in a turban sits quietly soaking up the sun in the CBD as walkers rush past: here’s a snapshot of how local photographers are capturing everyday life in Adelaide.

CRAIG Ludvigsen took his first photo about 26 years ago as part of a class at Aberfoyle Park High School.

Now the Greenwith man devotes himself to the art form full-time, and describes himself as “an amateur heading towards that (professional) road.”

Mr Ludvigsen took time out to speak to Messenger Community News during a Canon photographic workshop in the CBD last week.

He and several workshop members agreed to let us share a selection of the snaps they took during the workshop with readers.

Mr Ludvigsen said he liked the idea of News Corp’s #SnapAdelaide campaign, which aims to bring the community together to celebrate what we love about our city through photos.

It will culminate on a national day of action on November 16, when our readers, journalists and photographers will snap and share photos on Instagram, Twitter or Messenger’s Facebook pages, using the hashtag #SnapAdelaide.

A wildlife photographer with a particular interest in birds, Mr Lidvigsen said he would probably spend November 16 snapping images at the Greenfields Wetland.

“It’s the perfect place for me because it showcases what my field is — bird photography,” he said.

He also recommended the Adelaide Botanic Garden as a great setting for any snap-happy people interested in the outdoors.

Mr Ludvigsen, who is working on a book about South Australian birds, said his interest in wildlife photography developed when he spent time living on Kangaroo Island in his late 20s and early 30s.

What started as a hobby quickly developed into a passion.

“I made a conscious decision a few years ago that I didn’t want to do anything else than be an artist,” he says.

“I don’t care if I die poor like most artists I’m doing something that I’m passionate about.”

He encouraged others to pick up a camera and get involved in the Snap Adelaide event.

“(Photography) really calms you and gets you outside- there’s nothing better.”
