A South Australian model student has quickly become an international runway model, landing a gig at Paris Fashion Week.
Adelaide model Ruby Eckert, 18, is enjoying an amazing gap year after completing Year 12 at Immanuel College in 2022, working as a model overseas and, according to her mother Marion Eckert, making the most of every opportunity.
Mrs Eckert said Ruby’s impressive academic achievements have paved the way for her to pursue a dream career, but it’s all on hold for the moment as embarks on another dream working in the modelling world.
“She jagged over 98 in Year 12 in her ATAR … she is quite interested in forensics and law and psychology so she’s planning to go to UniSA next year,” Marion said.
However, with things going so well on the modelling front, Mrs Eckert said she now wondered if Ruby would ever return home.
Mrs Eckert said Ruby had been dabbling in modelling since Year 9 around Adelaide and had been identified as a talent early on.
“She was picked up by a German company but Covid derailed any travel plans,” she said.
“She has always worked for the same modelling company in Adelaide, Azalea Models … Ruby said she was having a gap year but was interested in picking up any work she could and they said we might be able to get you some work overseas.”
Ruby soon landed opportunities and started out in Greece earlier this year working as a model for three months.
She then went to London where she had a quick break from modelling, working in a special needs school as a teacher’s aid.
However, Ruby’s images began circling companies ahead of Paris Fashion Week.
“She got three offers straight away, it was just incredible … she’s making her way there today to do that work over the next few days.”
Mrs Eckert said while Ruby was dedicated to her modelling work, her overseas trip had not been all work and no play.
“She’s been in Munich at Oktoberfest, so she’s not eating lettuce, let‘s say that, but she’s very excited to go to Paris Fashion Week,” she said.
