Portaloos are on the way to the Mount Gambier Showgrounds Covid Testing Clinic after those queuing for hours were told to “use the grass” on Wednesday.
A Mount Gambier mum, who wanted to remain anonymous, was left shocked and upset when she discovered there were no toilet facilities at the clinic.
“We got there about 8.30am, after an hour I realised I needed the toilet so I went looking,” she said.
“The toilets were locked so I figured there would be facilities open near the main buildings.
“I proceeded over to the testing area and spoke with security and a person who identified herself as in charge of the site for SA Pathology.
“The security person said ‘use the grass’.
“Multiple people including myself had to go on the grass, including small children.”
Previously those waiting for testing had been able to use the showground’s disabled toilets but they have now been locked with volunteers unable to keep up with the cleaning demands.
A SA Health spokesperson confirmed resources were on the way Thursday evening.
“Portable toilets will be set up at the Mount Gambier Showground Covid testing site,” the spokesperson said.
“A cleaning schedule will be implemented for these toilets.
“We thank everyone for their patience at this time.”
While people reported lengthy waiting times on Tuesday with the site temporarily closed due to whether and Wednesday, the line had disappeared on Thursday.
The lack of toilet facilities comes just weeks after overwhelmed testing staff staged walkout with SA Pathology acting quickly to resolve the issues.
