One woman has taken her love for the Power to the next level, making an image of the coach’s face a permanent part of her body.

SA raised Port Adelaide mega fan Bek Herbert, 33, has always been a fan of the football club.

From a young age, she wore the teal, silver, black or white with pride, but in 2019, she decided to make that love a permanent part of her body.

“I’ve always been a diehard Port supporter,” she said.

“When I was in primary school, the boy that I liked in second grade was a Port Adelaide fan, so I became a Port Adelaide fan.”

“My dad is a Richmond fan but was thankful to have a daughter that loves footy.”

Unlike any other supporter, Bek has taken her love for the team’s coach in particular to the next level, dedicating the back of one of her legs to the great Ken Hinkley.

“In 2018, I was in a tattoo studio and I made a bet with the artist, who was a Crows supporter, that whoever was lowest on the ladder that year would have to get the opposing team tattooed on them somehow,” she said.

“That year, Port ended up higher on the ladder by the tiniest percentage. Watching that game was terrifying because the whole time I was thinking ‘I really don’t want a Crows tattoo’.”

“When we got around to getting the tattoos in 2019, the artist told me they’d give me a free Port Adelaide tattoo at the same time they were getting theirs, so I decided to get Ken on me.

“Ken and the boys got me through, so I wanted something of him with some Bowie like face paint in the Port colours.”

Port fan baking up a chance to win AFL Grand Final tickets

Now living in Melbourne, Bek is in the running to win tickets to the Toyota AFL Grand Final, but not for her passion and love for the team.

She might hate the Magpies, but she makes a mean vegetarian party pie.

A finalist in the Heinz Tomato Ketch-Cup, Bek is baking to win a double pass to the Grand Final, but needs the support from her state to help her get there.

Up until this point, the competition has been judged by Melbourne Demons player and passionate home cook, Christian Petracca, who selected the top eight recipes from all around the country.

A vegetarian herself, Bek said her competition entry – vegetarian party pies – are a twist on the classic footy game snack that she enjoys when she’s watching her favourite team.

“I would have been to over 50 games in my life, but that also takes into account the fact I left Adelaide when I was 16.

“The best moment in a live Port Adelaide game is when I was behind a goal when Dan Houston scored a goal after the siren.”

“It was like slow motion, especially waiting to see if it was a goal or not. It was just an incredible thing to be part of.”
