Plans to build two, million dollar, double storey, childcare centres in Adelaide’s south have been tabled with a local council.

Marc Duncan for Future Urban Pty Ltd has lodged plans to build two childcare centres, the first on the corner of Gledsdale Rd and Freya Ave in Hallett Cove and the second on Renown Ave and Renown Place in Clovelly Park.

The Hallett Cove application – which plans to host a cohort of 98 children – sits adjacent from Hallett Cove School.

“The building will be separated into six areas based on the ages of the children, with each area having access to outdoor play spaces,” the report states.

“A range of internal spaces which support the functioning of the centre are incorporated within the building including a kitchen, offices, amenities and rooms for staff.”

The centre would employ 16 staff members and the application notes that not all staff are present onsite at the same time.

The lower level would be 364sq m and comprise of two group spaces, each with access to the preparation area, toilets and their own sleeping rooms, as well as staff amenities.

The upper level would be 409sq m and include four group spaces, each having access to toilets and a preparation area.

“A total of 25 carparking spaces will be provided on site, including one space for disabled users,” the report noted.

Eight car parks will be provided within a car lift structure that will be designated for staff use only, with the car lift being entirely underground so there will be no stacked carparking visible from street level.”

The Clovelly Park proposal would see the construction of a child care centre for 94 children, with a total of 24 parking spaces will be provided on-site within an under croft parking area.

The two Clovelly Park homes, 10 and 12 Renown Ave were sold for a total of $732,000 in both 2010 and 2012 and according to the report both homes will be demolished to make way for the two-storey centre, with development costs estimated at $1.1m.

The centre will have host a mud kitchen with vegetable garden, a sand pit with decking bridge and a looped sensory path and racing track outside for the children, while inside will host two activity rooms and three sleeping nooks.

Both developments are on public notice before the City of Marion until early September.
