Work to start on $45 million Mawson Lakes student accommodation next month
WORK on a $45 million apartment complex and shopping centre Mawson Lakes is set to begin in coming weeks.
UNIVERSITY students will be able to move into a multi-million dollar student accommodation complex in Mawson Lakes by the end of next year, the site’s developer says.
Construction on the $45 million Mawson Lakes Central Plaza is expected to begin on Capital St next month as developers prepare to lay the building’s foundations.
The three-storey plaza, owned by Hot Property Group, will feature 80 two-storey townhouses for students, with about 210 beds in shared rooms.
It will also have 11 shops and an IGA Supermarket on the ground floor, and basement carpark.
Hot Property Group sales and marketing manager Stuart Zyhajlo said the accommodation would be offered to students studying at the nearby University of SA at Mawson Lakes.
“(Or) they could be students who are studying in the city and would prefer to commute rather than pay the higher rate for apartments in the city,” Mr Zyhajlo said.
He said a student accommodation company would manage the townhouses, which would be rented to students starting their studies in 2017.
The retail tenancies on the ground floor had not yet been determined, but Mr Zyhajlo said it would offer a variety of shopping options for the students.
“I think it offers an alternative to the existing commercial precinct in Mawson Lakes,” he said.
“It obviously offers students a purpose-built area where they can stay with other students ... which will be an advantage.”
