What will go inside the big shed built to house a Masters Home Improvement store at Parafield Airport?

THIS shed spanning 13,500 square metres is sitting empty in Adelaide’s north — and months after a retailer pulled out of its plans for a giant hardware store at the site, there’s no word on how it’ll be used.

A MASTERS Home Improvement store at Parafield Airport remains empty three months after the hardware giant announced it would close all its stores.

Woolworths announced in January it had abandoned plans to open Masters Home Improvement stores across the nation, including new stores under construction at Parafield and Noarlunga.

“The sale process for Masters and Home Timber and Hardware has commenced and is expected to continue over the coming months,” a Woolworths spokeswoman said in a statement.

“We will uphold our obligation to disclose updates on this matter where necessary.”

The 13,500sq m department store on Main North Rd, Parafield, was due to open within the next month, creating about 300 construction jobs and a further 130 ongoing positions.

Developers had laid the concrete foundation at the Parafield store, erected the walls and painted the building since construction began in June.

Salisbury councillors have previously suggested a gardening retailer, supermarket, department store or storage warehouse would be among the best options to replace the hardware giant.

Mayor Gillian Aldridge was hopeful a new tenant would snap up the site in the coming months.

“I would imagine that it would take no time at all for someone to move in there because it is in such a prime position with easy access in and out of the area,” Ms Aldridge said.

“And I suspect that there would be more development happening right around that area, which would of course encourage more people to come in.”
