A commercial builder with a portfolio of high-profile public and private projects has closed its doors with the loss of 17 jobs.
Mawson Lakes-based Unique Urban Built, founded in 2007, has been placed under external administration with undisclosed debts.
The company’s projects spanned industrial, retail, heritage and infrastructure works, including the Adelaide Aquatic Centre upgrade, Quorn Memorial Swimming Pool redevelopment, restoration of the heritage Tea Tree Gully Old Council chambers and new landing docks for the Popeye and Adelaide Rowing Club.
PKF Adelaide accountants has been appointed liquidator — its spokesman Robert Spiby said the company had employed 17 staff and was working on eight projects, predominantly for councils.
He said he was working to try and have those jobs completed. He said he was yet to ascertain the extent of the company’s debts.
The CFMMEU SA said that Unique Urban Built owed suppliers money, including one which was $40,000 out of pocket.
Unique Urban Built’s website has been removed, its Facebook page closed down and the office phone has been disconnected.
The company spent $4.5 million on new architecturally-designed headquarters in 2015.
The closure comes after recent builder collapses including JML Developments, OAS Group, Tudor Homes, ODM Group and Platinum Fine Homes.
