The $33 million, upgraded Golden Grove park ‘n’ ride is expected to be open for commuters by early 2022.

However, it is still unclear where commuters will park during construction.

The Transport Department has released design images for The Grove Way site with construction works anticipated to begin in early to mid-2021 and be open from early 2022.

Member for King Paula Luethen told The Messenger it was still unclear where commuters will park during works.

“I have been advised the department are consulting stakeholders to explore options currently,” Ms Luethen said.

The upgrade was a key election promise from the then Opposition in 2018.

It will increase the existing number of 177 spaces to 450 – with two storeys on the northern section and three storeys at the southern end – plus 32 spots for bicycles.

Ms Luethen said the expansion would ease congestion in nearby residential streets.

“People can get into the city faster and cheaper and the parking will be free,” Ms Luethen said.

“The promised Golden Grove park ‘n’ ride expansion is the most popular topic of discussion right now in the King electorate.”

Transport Minister Corey Wingard said residents in the northeast had been “crying out for a facility like this for years”.

“To be delivering more than 400 parks is a huge win for the local community and will help meet the growing demand in the area and get more people onto public transport,” Mr Wingard said.

However, 76 unregulated trees will be removed for works at this stage.

Tea Tree Gully Deputy Mayor Lucas Jones said he looked forward to parking pressure being reduced in Golden Grove.

“With the Tea Tree Plaza park ‘n’ ride at capacity, we would like to see the State Government also deliver on their commitment of a second park ‘n’ ride in Modbury,” Mr Jones said.

The Modbury project was delayed after the State Government announced $18.5 million in funding in 2018 to prioritise park ‘n’ rides at Golden Grove and Paradise.

The designs are currently out for public inspection until January 22 at plan.sa.gov.au
