Tea Tree Gully Council has been authorised to publish details about “a number of investigations” into its under-siege Mayor Kevin Knight following reports made to the Office for Public Integrity.

In the latest blow to the mayor’s position – after elected members unanimously asked him to step down in June – Independent Commissioner Against Corruption Bruce Lander has authorised the council to publicise the investigations.

Mr Knight’s privileges, including a personal assistant and an office, have also been removed.

In a statement from Tea Tree Gully Council, the investigations “have arisen as a result of reports made to the Office for Public Integrity” after a referral from ICAC.

“There have been multiple media articles in relation to Mayor Kevin Knight including a number in which he has referred to various complaints against him,” the statement read.

The council said it would make no further comment as “investigations are ongoing”.

It comes after Mr Knight was found to have patted a female staffer on the backside with a rolled-up document on October 2 at the Modbury Civic Centre last year, following an independent investigation.

Mr Knight said he would welcome a full and comprehensive investigation into the allegations from an independent investigator with no ongoing relationship or previous connection to the council.

“Unfortunately, my representations to the council to ensure the independence of that investigator have so far gone wholly unheeded,” Mr Knight said.
