Salisbury North player Alex Stengle incident

THE SANFL is investigating claims a player was punched by an opponent off the ball during a junior game at Salisbury North Oval on Sunday.

An division one under-14s north SANFL junior match between Hope Valley Demons and Salisbury North Hawks was called off after a Hawks player was believed to have hit a Demons opponent in the jaw at halftime.

The Advertiser was told the victim was taken to Modbury Hospital but was later cleared of any serious injuries.

The SANFL confirmed in a statement it was aware of the matter and was “liaising with all parties involved”.

“We will be investigating the incident once the necessary information has been provided,” the statement said.

The SANFL did not want to comment further while the investigation was being undertaken.

Salisbury North was kicked out of the Adelaide Footy League’s senior competitions in June after a string of on-field indiscretions.

It entered the junior clash in top spot on the ladder and was about six goals ahead when the game was called off.

Hope Valley is sixth with a 4-9 record.

Salisbury North and Hope Valley officials did not want to comment.
