SOUTH Australian women are “very sweet and humble” but not as confident as their interstate counterparts, a beauty pageant organiser says.
Miss Universe Australia national director Deborah Miller says that might explain why no-one from SA had won the beauty competition.
“I think the girls aren’t as overly as confident as other states,” she said.
“They’re very sweet girls and they don’t have that big city confidence.
“Even when they come for the interviews so many of them are doing wonderful things but they don’t show off … they’re very sweet and humble girls.”
Ms Miller is calling for last minute entrants for the 2015 Miss Universe Australia state preliminary final on tomorrow at Elizabeth Shopping Centre.
She urges SA hopefuls to be bold, saying local women are not as showy as their eastern state counterparts.
“We want a South Australian winner because we haven’t had one,” she said.
“It’s a lot of fun so don’t be intimidated.
“It is a platform for girls if they want a career in modelling or television or even charity work.
“There are a lot of opportunities.”
About 20 SA women, aged 18-27, will strut their stuff on the Elizabeth catwalk tomorrow.
The entrants will be vying for a chance to represent the nation at Donald Trump’s International Miss Universe pageant next year.
It is not too late to enter the competition, which famously launched the modelling and media careers of Jennifer Hawkins and Rachael Finch.
