A Concordia woman accused of threatening police will remain in custody amid concerns sheriff’s officers could not take her into court safely.

Solange Goodes, 42, was due to appear in the Elizabeth Magistrates Court on Friday afternoon charged with five aggravated counts of threatening to cause harm to a worker.

However, Magistrate Ben Sale said Goodes had refused to speak to a duty solicitor or obtain any other kind of legal advice.

“I am informed by the senior sheriff’s officer that she created a situation whereby those who would be charged with bringing her to court, feel they’d be placing themselves in danger if they attempt to do so,” Mr Sale said. “I accept that advice.”

Goodes, and her co-accused Toby Lockyer, 41, were arrested at Sandy Creek, east of Gawler, early Thursday after police attended for a routine weapons check before it descended into a police standoff.

Police were allegedly forced to fall back after threats were made.

Special Tasks And Rescue (STAR) Group officers then responded to what they described as a “high-risk incident”.

On Friday, Mr Sale said all he could do was remand Goodes in custody for the weekend.

She is next due to appear in court for charges of hinder or resist a police officer and assault a worker next month.

“Ms Goodes is entitled to apply for bail if she wishes to do so,” Mr Sale said.

He co-accused, who was charged with firearms offences and hindering police, was bailed yesterday and will face court in November.

Outside court, Lockyer said Goodes had been unfairly locked up: “She is of no threat to the community, what the fuck are they doing to my wife?”

However, on Thursday, Chief Inspector Lauren Leverington said the pair had allegedly become “hostile towards police” and as a result officers withdrew from the property.

Chief Inspector Leverington said the public was not in danger at any stage during the operation.

“In terms of how we respond, we certainly ensure people are safe in the area. We had a lot of police in the area this morning and there’s no further threats,” she said.
