Salisbury East man Mark Michael Mullett appears in court for the first time

A northern suburbs man has appeared in court after being arrested at the airport when 3D printed guns, ammo and pyrotechnics were allegedly found in his luggage.

A Salisbury East man has fronted court for the first time after being arrested with 3D printed guns, live ammo and pyrotechnics in his airport luggage.

Mark Michael Mullett, 41, appeared in the Adelaide Magistrates Court on Wednesday following his arrest on September 5, 2024.

Jack Simpson, for Mr Mullett, told Magistrate Christopher Smolicz that the matter was a major indictable – meaning it would eventually be heard in the District Court.

Mr Mullett is yet to enter a plea to four counts of manufacturing a firearm, two counts of possessing a prescribed firearm without a licence and one count of contravening a provision under the code of conduct.

Following his arrest, South Australian Police alleged during his transit through Darwin Airport on Saturday, August 17, his luggage was searched and guards allegedly uncovered two 3D-printed guns.

The guns were confiscated alongside illegal pyrotechnics and live ammunition and he was arrested the following day by Australian Federal Police and SA Police officers in Adelaide.

A two-day search of his Salisbury East home allegedly uncovered two more 3D-printed firearms, as well as gun parts, ammunition, illegal pyrotechnics and a 3D-printing machine.

He was arrested again by Firearms branch detectives on September 5.

Mr Smolicz remanded Mr Mullett on continuing home detention bail for the matter to return to court in March next year for charge determination.
