Nearly four acres of council-owned land in Salisbury is on the market with either a health or sporting hub earmarked for development.

Salisbury Council is looking for a buyer of 3.87 hectares of land at 11 and 15 Orange Avenue, adjacent to Salisbury Oval.

Urging developers to “be part of the City of Salisbury renewal”, the council’s “desired uses” for the land includes “commercial sporting uses, commercial health services for aged care and sports medicine sectors”, an online advertisement reads.

Expressions of interest close on March 10.

The council is also spending approximately $1.4m on upgrading land along Brown Terrace in the same precinct, which includes a custom tower, carousel, seesaw, teepee, swing set, sandpit, a bouldering wall and fitness equipment.

Works are expected to be completed by the end of the financial year.

It comes nearly two years after a community campaign ensured both parcels of land, and Neales Green nearby, were not sold for housing.

It was suggested in a Salisbury Oval precinct masterplan.

The council unanimously voted against selling the community park in April, 2019 for housing following a petition which was signed by more than 2000 people.

The grassroots protest gathered momentum after the council changed the classification for the 9600sq m reserve in early 2018.

Deputy Mayor Chad Buchanan said the council had listened to the community and spared it from an unwanted residential development.

“We are now looking for partners to construct sport or health type facilities, as well as investing over $1.4 million for new recreation facilities for kids and families,” Mr Buchanan said.

The Orange Avenue land can be purchased either separately or together, the advertisement reads.
