A Rebels bikie killed in a tragic crash this month has been described as “a very big teddy bear with a heart of gold” by his girlfriend as he was farewelled at a funeral service today.
Hundreds turned out to pay tribute to senior Rebels bikie Shane Smith, who crashed his motorcycle on Milne Road, Redwood Park on September 7, dying at the scene.
Mr Smith was remembered as a talented footballer for Modbury and was also the former partner of Married At First Sight reality TV star Stacey Hampton.
He is the father of Ms Hampton’s two young sons.
Mr Smith’s partner Donna Baldino joined family members, friends and fellow Rebels bikies who paid tribute to the father-of-four at the funeral.
“I never thought I’d be up here standing like this today saying goodbyes to you,” Ms Baldino said.
“Shane and I shared a love like no other, we knew from the start that what we had was something special, something pure, something that made us feel so safe and want to grow old together.”
“I saw a side to Shane that only a few knew, a very big teddy bear with a heart of gold.”
Rebels representatives paid tribute to their fallen brother at the funeral service with Rebels International president Alex Vella delivering a video tribute.
“On behalf of Rebels worldwide … (Shane was) born to be a Rebel and be free,” he said.
“He joined the Adelaide Rebels 17 years ago and in Adelaide he kept the Rebels on the go.”
Local Rebels joined the tributes at the funeral.
“The Rebels MC have lost a real one – brother Shane, I still can’t believe you’re gone,” a Rebels member said.
“We used to call you the hurricane man, and man did you live up to that name.”
“Shane was a loyal and generous friend, brother and club man … he was a straight-up bloke, tough as nails with a big heart,” another Rebels member said.
“He was a loving, devoted father to his kids and loved his family and friends.
“He loved the club 100 per cent and we loved Shane 100 per cent, he was a true Rebel clubman and a true one percenter.”
Rebel bikies rode alongside his hearse as it made its way to the burial site, with his coffin decorated with the letters RFFR: Rebels Forever, Forever Rebels.
