New Northern Districts coach Peter Cameron targets Grade Cricket finals for the Jets
NEW Northern Districts coach Peter Cameron does not want to hear the term "rebuilding phase" at the Grade Cricket club during the next six months.
NEW Northern Districts coach Peter Cameron does not want to hear the terms "rebuilding phase" or "honeymoon period" at the Grade Cricket club during the next six months.
He says there is no reason why the Jets cannot end their four-year finals drought this season.
"We're not in a rebuilding phase - that's an overused term in sport these days - and I'm not interested in a honeymoon period where the players take 12 months or six months to get used to a new coach," Cameron said.
"We've got to get up and running quickly.
"Looking at the talent within the group I would assume that (finals) is a realistic goal."
The Jets have not reached the major round since 2009/2010 and finished sixth last season despite winning their first four matches.
Cameron said improvement would have to come from within because the squad had few new faces.
Wicketkeeper Jye Bailey has returned from Adelaide Turf outfit Pooraka while English all-rounder Joe Gatting will rejoin the club for a second season.
Batsman Isaiah Borgas will again captain Northern.
"I think we've got four or five or six capable of going to that next level," Cameron said.
Northern opens its season with a one-day cup game against Tea Tree Gully on October 12.
