A Salisbury councillor announced new fast food restaurants for the northern suburbs – and days later asked Facebook commenters not to “shoot the messenger”.
Salisbury West ward Councillor Beau Brug took to Facebook to share the news Ingle Farm Plaza was announcing McDonald’s and Zambrero would open there soon.
“Ingle Farm Plaza are excited to announce that construction of two new fast-food restaurants – McDonalds and Zambrero, in the western carpark adjacent to Walkleys Road is due to begin this month,” Mr Brug wrote.
“There will be some temporary changes to the car park layout while these improvements are underway.”
But locals were quick to share their feelings about the news, prompting Mr Brug to comment “don’t shoot the messenger”.
Donna Martin wrote, “Come to Ingle Farm Plaza, where there’s a variety of takeaway options but you can only have Coles for groceries. And yes Aldi but as great as Aldi is they don’t stock everything for everyone. Would love a Romeo’s or Woolies to go into Poor Man’s Coles. The one at the end.
“That’s also four other Maccas less than 4.5k or less away (Gilles Plains, Northfield, Pooraka and Modbury) And as others have said the car park on a weekend is hard enough. Not a fan of this move.”
Tony Giannaros commented, “hmmm … weird (or is it disappointing?) to think that a McDonald’s opening a new store is worthy of celebration. At least Zambrero is an Australian company.”
Renae Rowell wrote, “Great! another Maccas and less car parks. Trying to put HJs out of business? Why not put another Coles there while you’re at it.”
Non-locals to Ingle Farm, such as James McKenzie, commented, “You would think they could build a Coles there! I live in Seaford and know the struggles of the local community of Ingle Farm not having enough options for their groceries!”
Ingle Farm Shopping Centre was contacted for comment.
