A beloved member of a family has needed emergency veterinary help after a fight with brown snake left him with a near deadly bite.

Kaos, an American bulldog, was found in the backyard of his family’s Lewiston home by a neighbour on Monday after tackling the snake, which had slithered into the family’s property.

He was found lying down with the large snake in his mouth, dead.

His owner Emily Makepeace rushed home to her pet, who was eventually saved – but she now faces a near $3000 vet bill.

“I knew his life was in my hands and I had to do everything I could to get him to the vet,” Ms Makepeace wrote on TikTok.

“He wanted to protect us and save us, now was my chance to do the same for him.”

Now Ms Makepeace is raising funds to help pay back the debt to her mother who paid for Kaos’ lifesaving treatment.

“We approved basic CPR and anti venom, they had then came out and told us the cost will be $3000,” Ms Makepeace wrote in a GoFundMe.

“He would not survive without it … My dogs are my world.”

In multiple posts to a local Facebook groups Ms Makepeace warned pet-owners to be careful as summer heats up and snakes make their ways into backyards.

Photos of the snake that bit Kaos were posted on social media in the wake of the fight, and the reptile can be seen torn into pieces.

Kaos’ encounter isn’t the only misfortune the northern-suburbs family have been forced to endure.

“I was diagnosed with PE (several blood clots in the lungs), and an enlarged heart,” Ms Makepeace wrote.

“I was working as a support worker and recently lost my job when the company went down, with that I am owed thousands I haven’t been paid yet.

“A week ago we were driving home when scaffolding fell off a truck in front of us damaging our car, we now also owe $2000 to insurance for excess.”

Despite the stress the situation caused as she rushed to save her pet, Ms Makepeace said Kaos coming home safe was the best Christmas present they could ask for.

“Our only Christmas wish was to bring him home whether we had enough money to get through Christmas or not,” She said.

After two days of rest, Kaos is reportedly on the mend and feeling better. You can donate here.
