Jake Anthony Rathjen granted bail, charged with hitting man with his car at Davoren Park

A carer who allegedly mowed down a man with his car – leaving him with head injuries – after a northern suburbs street brawl has been granted bail.

A carer who allegedly mowed down a man with his car after a wild northern suburbs street brawl has been released on bail.

Jake Anthony Rathjen, 42, applied for home detention bail in the Adelaide Magistrates Court on Tuesday, after he allegedly left the man with serious head injuries.

Emergency services were called to Charmouth Road in Davoren Park just after 7pm on October 18 after reports of fighting in the street.

Police will allege two men were threatening each other with weapons, when one of the men got into his car and drove at the other man, knocking him to the ground.

The 39-year-old man from Davoren Park was taken to the Royal Adelaide Hospital for treatment.

His condition was not considered to be life threatening.

Mr Rathjen is charged with causing serious harm by dangerous driving and driving while disqualified. He is yet to enter any pleas.

A prosecutor told they court they were opposed to Mr Rathjen being released on bail, as he had a history of poor compliance with bail.

Counsel, for Mr Rathjen, told the court he was a full-time carer for a woman, which included taking her to appointments, shopping and caring for her dogs.

The court heard Mr Rathjen had no history of violence, with his criminal offences relating to substance abuse and driving related charges.

Chief Magistrate Judge Mary-Louise Hribal released Mr Rathjen on home detention bail to a Salisbury North address.

She reminded him to be very careful about not breaching any conditions as he might not get bail again.

The charges were adjourned until January.
