Jack Biddle denied bail, charged with large commercial drug trafficking

A young accused drug dealer will remain in custody despite his mum saying home detention bail would be his “last chance” to remain in the family home.

A young man will remain in custody after he was allegedly caught with over 2000 MDMA pills during a police chase.

Jack Biddle, 20, applied for home detention bail in the Adelaide Magistrates Court, with his mother saying it was his “last chance” to stay in the family home.

A prosecutor told the court they were opposed to bail for Mr Biddle in all forms, due to his previous non-attendance at court and the seriousness of the charges.

The court heard police were travelling along Park Terrace when they sighted a vehicle exiting a BP service station at Brahma Lodge on July 25.

The court heard the driver of the vehicle, suspected to be stolen, accelerated away when they saw police.

Police pulled the vehicle over and saw Mr Biddle in the front passenger seat.

“The defendant provided a false name to police,” the prosecutor said.

The court heard Mr Biddle started to walk away and police gave chase, seeing him throw a clear plastic bag.

“Police arrested him and retrieved the bag and observed that the bag contained over 2000 blue pills, being suspected MDMA,” the prosecutor said.

The court heard police also located $1050 in Mr Biddle’s wallet.

Mr Biddle, of Hewett, is charged with large commercial drug trafficking.

The court heard Mr Biddle was on bail for other charges, including serious criminal trespass and theft, when he was arrested on the new alleged offence.

Court documents allege Mr Biddle broke into a Blakeview house on December 28, 2022 and stole a phone charger.

Christos Pouras, for Mr Biddle, told the court other people were involved in the drug trafficking incident and the charges were currently contested.

Mr Pouras said Mr Biddle had strong family support and he could live at his mother’s address if released.

“I’ve had discussions with Mr Biddle’s mother myself and she’s also indicated to me that she’s prepared to have him there but this will be his last chance,” he said.

“And if he does breach (bail) again she won’t make the house available to him.”

Mr Pouras said Mr Biddle had full time employment available to him and realised now the stakes were very high.

Chief Magistrate Judge Mary-Louise Hribal denied Mr Biddle home detention bail, due to his poor court attendance and risk of reoffending.

The charges were adjourned until next month.
