A HARBOUR Town-style shopping centre featuring fashion outlets, sporting good stores, homeware retailers and an alfresco dining area will get underway at Parafield Airport this year.
The Devwest Group will begin construction on the centre, titled District Outlet Centre, at a vacant block at Lawrence Hargrave Way, Parafield Airport, during the second half of this year.
The developers are still negotiating lease deals for the 41,000 sq m development, but it is expected to feature clothing, sporting and homeware stores, and a food court.
Devwest Group development director Brett Lovett said the company wanted to offer a “mixed retail” experience without having to travel to the other side of the city.
“(It) is an exciting new shopping destination, showcasing a huge range of fashion and homeware brands,” Mr Lovett said.
“Our intention for the centre is to target the demographic for this northern part of Adelaide so the tenancy profile will be akin to what customers wish to experience.
“The centre will be built on a single level, covered, with a ‘racetrack’ style approach to the journey around the centre.
“Midway through that journey we propose an extensive food and beverage offering with an alfresco section.”
The developers anticipated the centre would open in the latter half of next year.
The development is part of Parafield Airport’s Master Plan, which was drawn up four years ago.
An airport spokesman said the centre would create up to 350 jobs when it opened in 2017.
“(This will provide) a significant boost for economic growth in the northern suburbs.” he said.
