A proposed $2 million, two-storey Green Leaves early learning centre in Mawson Lakes is expected to employ up to 60 people during construction.

If approved, it would be the company’s seventh centre in South Australia after locations were opened in Valley View and Newton last year.

ESH Developments has lodged an application with Salisbury Council to construct a “purpose-built” facility for up to 108 children and 18 staff on a vacant 2593sq m parcel of land at 92-94 Cascades Drive.

An ESH spokesman said the project was likely to employ up to 60 people during an estimated nine-month build.

In the developer’s application, consultant URPS stated the centre would be largely single storey but with a “two-storey component” and outdoor play areas.

URPS also stated the development would be “sympathetic to the established character” of the area, which is largely two-storey residential dwellings.

“With an experienced design team, the proposal has been carefully designed to feature a built scale that is cohesive to its surroundings and that provides safe and convenient access for all transportation,” its submission reads.

“In a residential zone, the proposed building design is consistent with the residential character of the locality, being respectful of scale and materials found upon nearby residential development.”

The centre would be open from 6.30am to 7pm, Monday to Friday with 27 carparking spaces.

A further report from traffic consultant Cirqa stated the development would generate up to 52 trips during peak hours, which was an acceptable increase.

Green Leaves were contacted for comment.
