A pregnant Wynn Vale woman has faced court charged with driving with methamphetamine in her system, while a child was in the car.
Ellana Jane Fransman, 29, pleaded guilty to the charges at the Christies Beach Magistrates Court on Monday.
The court heard Fransman had been pulled over by police in August at Morphett Vale when she returned the positive drug test.
A police prosecutor told the court there had been a one-year-old child in the car - who was not her child - at the time.
“Checks conducted on the defendant’s license revealed that she held a probationary drivers license with an alcohol and drug indicator for a previous expiated offence of drive with methamphetamine while involved with a crash and that occurred in September 2019,” he said.
“She was not interviewed in relation to the offence because her emotional state and that she was also currently 15 weeks pregnant (at the time).”
Fransman, who is now 24 weeks pregnant, told the court she had relapsed at the time and immediately sought support.
“I did have a history of a drug addiction in the past and the relapse that was the day I got pulled over,” she said.
“That was a relapse I had when I was going through a stressful time in my life.
“That day I got pulled over I went to drug and alcohol services and said ‘I need your help’ and that put me into (Drug and Alcohol Services Australia) withdrawal services the next day.”
Magistrate Rodney Oates convicted Fransman and fined her $900.
He issued a six month license disqualification but ordered it to commence in February so Fransman could continue to drive to her pregnancy appointments.
