Elizabeth East cricketer CJ Robertson smashes 211 off 68 balls despite not training
ELIZABETH East cricketer CJ Robertson uses a cheap bat and does not train, but that has not stopped him from becoming a bowler’s nightmare.
ELIZABETH East cricketer CJ Robertson uses a “cheap, crap” bat he bought online and does not train.
But that has not stopped him from becoming a bowler’s nightmare in the Para Districts Cricket Association’s grade six 40-over competition.
The 36-year-old top-order batsman scored 211 of his side’s 294 in a semi-final win over Salisbury North B at Paralowie High School on March 22.
That knock, compiled off just 68 balls, included a whopping 15 fours, 22 sixes and “not a lot of running”.
It came despite training just once this season because he lives in Avon — about an hour from the cricket club.
Robertson’s batting mantra is “I’m not out there for a long time, I’m out there for a good time”.
“I’m a very aggressive batter, I always have been,” Robertson says.
“I don’t train, I just rock up on Saturdays.
“I was just lucky I guess — very lucky.
“I’m still in disbelief and think about it all day, every day.”
Robertson has made three centuries since following a mate out to Elizabeth East in 2001.
Before that he had played some school cricket but not at club level.
Earlier this season, Robertson scored 162 off 67 balls against Tea Tree Gully in November.
His past two centuries came wielding a brandless bat he bought off eBay 18 months ago.
“I bought a cheap, crap bat online.
“It doesn’t have a brand, it’s just fat and heavy.
“It doesn’t do a bad job.”
Robertson scored 26 off eight balls in the grand final on Saturday, as Elizabeth East lost to Tea Tree Gully.
He finished the season as the competition’s leading run scorer with 732 runs at 52.21 and a stunning strike rate of 216.9.
