A northern suburbs business owner has been charged after police allegedly located a large amount of cannabis in a Greenfields warehouse earlier this year.
Damien Justin Morley, 53, Jaicob Slade Morley, 25, and Aston Frank Steven Morley, 27, were all granted bail in the Elizabeth Magistrates Court last month after they were charged with trafficking in large commercial quantity of a controlled drug.
The court heard Damien Morley, owner of Bloomin Hydro in Parafield Gardens, was taking his charges “very seriously”.
“He has strong ties to the community … he disputes the charges and in my submission the prosecution case is circumstantial and that knowledge will be a large issue in relation to the prosecution proving the charge,” Damien Morley’s defence counsel said.
Police allege at about 8am, on April 18 2023, members from Serious and Organised Crime Branch attended a unit in Greenfields to conduct a planned search as part of Operation Euro.
Court documents state as a result of the search conducted, police allege a large commercial quantity of a controlled drug was located on the premises, namely 8.6 kilograms of cannabis.
The cannabis was allegedly located inside two duffel bags secreted behind some boxes in corner of warehouse.
Each duffel bag allegedly contained four shopping bags containing cannabis, each with an
approximate weight of half a kilogram each.
The remaining cannabis was allegedly located inside a large blue box in the racking on the southern side of the warehouse containing 11 vacuum sealed bags containing cannabis, each with an approximate weight of half a kilogram each.
Court documents further allege all three men were in control of the warehouse as they regularly attended the building, possessed keys for it and have been seen to open the warehouse to conduct transactions with customers.
According to court documents, regular payments of $2416 per month have been identified between the Morley’s trust account and that of the owner of the warehouse, which is suspected of being rental payments, despite there being no rental or tenancy agreement for the warehouse.
All three men were granted bail.
The matter will return to court later this year.
