Craigmore man Jacob Christopher Molyneux’s alleged child sex abuse revealed

A young man facing a staggering list of child sex abuse charges was allegedly caught using an online webcam site while out on bail, a court has heard.

A young man was allegedly caught using an online webcam site in contravention of his bail, but in applying for release from prison a staggering list of child sex abuse charges have been revealed.

Aged just 20, Craigmore man Jacob Christopher Molyneux has been charged eight counts of procuring a child for sexual activity – one aggravated – and 26 of producing child exploitation material – three aggravated.

Mr Molyneux last week appeared from custody in the Elizabeth Magistrates Court hoping to be released on home detention after he was arrested for allegedly breaching his bail on the charges.

Amid the hearing, the court was told he was also facing two rape charges, as well as another count of making a 13-year-old girl amenable to sexual activity, two of indecent assault charges and two of gross indecency.

After the allegations were detailed, a police prosecutor told the court Mr Molyneux was allegedly continually trying to get his hands on child abuse imagery.

The prosecutor told the court Mr Molyneux had been found with the online video chat website Omegle loaded on his phone which had led to his arrest in early October.

Investigations, the court heard, were ongoing into Mr Molyneux also allegedly using cloud-based instant messaging service Telegram using the name “Harry F” to ask for “child porn” and access to an online storage facility containing child abuse imagery called “Mega NZ”.

The prosecutor alleged further evidence had been found of Mr Molyneux on social media with two adolescent girls who told him they were 14, then saying they were actually 17, before exposing their breasts to him.

The court heard Mr Molyneux’s email address had also been used to activate a Snapchat account under the name “Vegemite Guy”.

Nick Thomson, for Mr Molyneux, told Magistrate Brian Nitschke his client would have to ask his parents for Wi-Fi access and would not own a phone with internet access if he was released on bail.

He told the court his client’s arrest days earlier for allegedly breaching the bail had been a “salutary reminder”.

Mr Nitschke disagreed and denied bail.

“I would have thought being charged with rape and charged with four counts of indecent assault would have been a fairly salutary reminder that there is a law, and it has some teeth,” he said.

“I would have thought that would be a salutary reminder, not, ‘well, I’ll breach bail a few times and see what happens’.

“I regard this as simply a wanton disregard of a bail condition imposed to try and protect others.”

Mr Molyneux again faced the Adelaide Magistrates Court on Tuesday where he was listed to apply for bail on the two rape charges.

But in a prompt hearing Mr Thompson told Magistrate Simon Smart bail had been revoked on all charges.

Mr Molyneux was remanded to next face court in November.
