Construction is due to begin on a $1.5m adventure playground in Golden Grove in February next year.

The council has received $750,000 from the state government for an adventure play space at Golden Fields Reserve – a figure it is expected to meet in its upcoming budget.

A review of facilities in the northeast has revealed “limited opportunities for youth play”, a council report stated.

Staff believe there are “unique play opportunities” for children and youth at the reserve and is poised to open by late 2022.

“Golden Fields is perfectly positioned to service not only the residents of Golden Grove but more broadly the northeast of Adelaide,” the report stated.

It is proposing slides, rock climbing walls, climbing nets, flying foxes, trampolines, “ninja style elements” and tunnels.

It could also have space for public art, elevated platforms and walkways.

However, the final design will be informed by feedback from the community with consultation set to begin in July.

Deputy Mayor Lucas Jones said the proposed playground was sure to be a big attraction for families, both local and beyond.

“This development will fill a gap in the provision of unstructured play opportunities, not only in the Golden Grove area, but the northeast of Adelaide,” Cr Jones said.

“As a father to a young daughter, I am personally looking forward to checking this project out once completed.

“It’s important that we provide opportunities for children of all abilities to challenge themselves and to get active, which is why we have decided to establish this play space at Golden Fields.”

Cr Brett Rankine said it would make the area an even bigger attraction for visitors.

“The lower part of Golden Fields remains largely undeveloped and hard to access... the installation of an adventure playground, carparking and toilets will open up the bottom half of our much loved reserve,” Cr Rankine said.
