A disability support worker has been given a six-month good behaviour bond for possessing a crossbow at her Elizabeth South property.
Denise Kathleen Bevan, 37, pleaded guilty in the Elizabeth Magistrates Court on Monday to one count of possession of a prohibited weapon.
The court heard police found the crossbow in a bedroom of her property on March 12 this year.
Bevan told the court she bought the weapon for $300 for “ornamental reasons”.
She said if she was to be jailed, she wanted to “get it out of the way”.
Officers inspected the property under the Firearms Act following a tip from the community.
A police prosecutor said Ms Bevan told police on the day of the weapon’s seizure: “It’s old, it never gets used, it’s kept as an ornament.”
Magistrate Yoong Fee Chin said it was a “jailable offence” but gave Bevan a $400 good behaviour bond.
